Help May Be On The Way

Dear Kini,

Thank you for your letter. As you may be aware, Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide, independent, non-governmental organization that seeks to ensure that all people enjoy all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.

In pursuit of this vision, AI's mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights. For this reason reported incidences of harsh treatment of illegal immigrants or asylum seekers in Detention centers are issues that Amnesty International expresses their concern about.

Everyday, AI receives hundreds of communications from all parts of the world. Please be assured that we carefully read each and every one of these. The North America team has a large program of work on the USA and although it is rarely able to provide direct assistance or action on individual cases, all relevant information we do receive is used to help us monitor and document patterns of abuse upon which we may be able to act at a later stage.

As a volunteer-based human rights movement our resources are limited. We ask for your understanding if you do not hear from us further to this letter. We appreciate the time and trouble you have taken to write to us.

Yours sincerely,

North America Research Team Amnesty International,
